Preparation of a pre-investment study for the railway line Sofia-Kulata-Promahon-Thessaloniki will be a strategic project in the Program for cross-border cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece for the period 2021-2027.

The second important focus is direct support for small and medium-sized enterprises in the cross-border area, as they are the backbone of the region’s economy. It is also important to meet the needs of business for quick and easy application procedures, said the Deputy Regional Minister. Small and medium-sized enterprises require an individual approach, which the new INTERREG regulation provides in the form of a Small Projects Fund.

The participants in the meeting agreed that the future cross-border cooperation program should focus on the specific needs and potential of each region with the increased participation of local stakeholders, which will help reduce imbalances, raise living standards and stimulate economic development

As in the previous programming period, on the Bulgarian side the program will cover the districts of Haskovo, Smolyan, Kardzhali and Blagoevgrad, and on the territory of the Hellenic Republic – the prefectures of Evros, Xanthi, Rhodopes, Drama, Kavala, Thessaloniki and Serres.
