Economic support for small and medium-sized businesses and security will be among the top priorities of the new program for cross-border cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey for the period 2021-2027.

This was agreed today by Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Denitsa Nikolova and Farouk Kaymakci – Director of EU Affairs and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. The two spoke during an online meeting of the joint working group on strategic planning and programming of the future program.

The new programming period will focus on local economic activity and job creation and retention, supporting business directly.

To this end, small and medium-sized businesses will have access to a special fund for the new small project support program. In this way, entrepreneurship and the enterprises themselves will be stimulated and production and market expansion will increase.

The program will also finance a project for capacity building, operational cooperation and technological modernization in the field of migration management, implemented by law enforcement agencies on both sides of the border.

Over the next seven years, the Bulgarian side will continue to cover the districts of Burgas, Yambol and Haskovo.

The financing of projects for environmental protection, tourism development and cultural exchange will also continue.

During today’s online meeting, the two Deputy Ministers stressed the fruitful cooperation and dialogue in the implementation of joint projects in the past years and highlighted the good basis created for taking the next steps and making future decisions.
